Filing for candidacy has begun for the 2012 election in the United States. The November general election will cover the House of Representatives, half of the Senate, and the office of President.
There are also 50 States and 7 U.S. territories that will have local offices like City Council, Sheriff, Mayors, state legislators, and other local public offices up for re-election.
Find out how to go about getting on the ballot for your State and do it!
You do NOT have to be affiliated with any political party. In many cases, all you have to be is 18 years old and a resident. Some offices require a little more, of course. To run for President, for example, you have to be at least 35 years old and a natural born citizen and have lived in the United States for the last 14 consecutive years. You can even do this from prison!
It would be a glorious day to walk into a voting booth and see thousands of names up for election.
